This work is an extension of a Line of thinking and visual exploration to do with the picture frame. I'm fascinated by the picture frames' ability to act as a border between the mundane world and the world of art. This piece and others in the series look to explore the role of the context in our relationship to art, raising questions about what art’s critical element really is. Is it really the art or the context in which we encounter it? This work is specifically an exploration of material and process. With context being a focal point of my work, I have become obsessed with the phenomenon of street art and what can be learned from it about the nature of art and creativity. Blending these explorations, I became interested in developing a process for fabricating physical picture frames that could be site-specific. The process proposed by this work is a combination of 3D modeling, 3D printing, and mold making with the goal of quickly producing large quantities of an object in a variety of materials and scales. This process proved to be incredibly successful and gave me access to the knowledge and materials to produce site-specific picture frames at will.
